Minnesota Golf Course and Country club is set in where else...the
Midwest! More specifically it is on the Chippewa River as it
empties into a fictional lake near my hometown in Minnesota...The
course sets up long and in some cases tight, but overall it isn't a
claustrophobic experience. I spent a lot of time trying to set up
scenic views, aligning the pano to give glimpses of the sunset.
The evening is my favorite time to play at my home course and on the
river with the marshes and ravines the sun makes the greatest colors
and shadows. The greens are small and firm, a challenge to hit to
say the least. The rough is short and "dry" feeling, especially
the first two cuts. It isn't a huge problem to miss a fairway, as
long as it doesn't leave you behind a tree or rock! As with my home
course, it is important to know where you can play to get members kicks
and where to miss to get the best chip or angle. A good short game is
crucial as sometimes hitting at the green in general can be a bad
idea. Local knowledge will be key.
